The mission of Save the Redwoods League is to protect and restore redwood forests and connect people with their peace and beauty so these wonders of the natural world flourish.

I have the good fortune to devote every day of my work life to the League’s inspiring mission. The Board and staff of the League are responsible for ensuring that the effort of our predecessors, 97 years of predecessors, endures.

Each Terrafirma member organization has a similar legacy. We all are charged with maintaining the conservation values of our community’s protected lands, long-term. Although it may be presumptuous, we are bold enough to say that we are in the “perpetuity” business.

The initial members of the Terrafirma Members Committee have done an excellent job setting high goals and standards: membership is sufficient; effective policies are established; and member organizations receive regular communications and support when needed. The next set of Committee members will build on this strong foundation.

If entrusted to serve on the Members Committee, I will work with my Committee colleagues and the extraordinary Terrafirma staff to continue to build an organization that will support our community’s perpetuity goals. Our Terrafirma community will be stronger financially when our membership is larger. So, I will continue the tradition of being an ambassador, assisting the Committee’s efforts to add and welcome additional members. I will bring my experience as land trust legal counsel to inform any new and improved policies adopted by the Committee. And, I will work with my colleagues to further enhance Terrafirma’s communications and support tools, all in an effort to build a stronger community.

In a few short years, Terrafirma has become woven into the fabric of the institutions supporting our long-term commitments. I look forward to the opportunity to strengthen the weft in that fabric.
